NSPower installing 180kW EV chargers in 23 locations

 

A few weeks ago while searching NRCan-funded EV projects, I discovered NSPower recieved a commitment of $5M from NRCan.  There are 23 locations, 21 of which will have 2 chargers installed, and 2 that will get 4 chargers.  The charging stations look like ABB Terra 184 units, which can charge 2 cars at up to 90kW, or 1 car at up to 180kW.  This means a total of 100 (likely CCS) charging plugs across 23 locations.  NSPI's first EV charging build, completed about 5 years ago, consists of a single 50kW Flo station at 14 locations.  Currently there are no chargers faster than 50kW between Truro and Sydney, so these chargers should be a big help for driving an EV to Cape Breton.  As of January 2025, construction has started at Membertou, Masstown, and possibly other locations.

The open data portal maps are a bit cumbersome to use, and it took me a while to figure out how to access the underlying data.  I exported the full details from NRCan's database, and created a Google spreadsheet for easier access.
